Small does not mean still

Many small breeds are lively, curious, and mentally busy. A couple of shorter walks plus sniffing time often works better than one forced march.

Weather changes the dose

Small dogs lose heat quickly in cold rain and can struggle when pavements are hot because their bodies are close to the ground.

A useful starting point

Try 20 to 45 minutes across the day for many small adult dogs, then adjust for breed, fitness, age, and what your dog looks like after the walk.

If a small dog is lagging, lifting paws, shivering, or panting hard, the walk has stopped being useful.

For today's local conditions, return to the dog walk forecast and adjust the surface and dog settings.
